In April 2013, an earthquake of magnitude 7.0 on the Richter scale struck Ya’an, Sichuan Province, taking away tens and thousands of lives and destroying countless homes. Our employees have taken immediate action by raising a generous donation of up to RMB480,000. And the proceeds raised went to Shenzhen One Foundation to help the earthquake victims. In addition, Nanjing store, Chongqing Store and stores in Wuhan organized commemorative activities respectively, in which the touching ambience moved the pedestrians and attracted them to join our loving force voluntarily.

In April 2013, NWDS organized its first-ever nationwide volunteer campaign-“NWDS Tutoring Program” to provide tutorial assistance to under-resourced children in a small group setting in order to help resolve difficulties they encountered in their studies, carrying an ultimate goal to create a caring society. The program enhanced schoolchildren’s comprehensive development by incorporating element of music, art, games and story. The program was completed with satisfaction in late June. Over 530 NWDS volunteers from 18 cities across the nation participated in the program, contributing 1500 service hours and benefiting about 1,600 schoolchildren across the nation.

In view of rising number of autistic children in China, the Company actively responded to the “World Autism Awareness Day” on 2 April 2012. To cooperate with the premiere of Son of the Stars, the autism themed movie to be held on 2 April, the Company thus organized a charity bazaar for premiere tickets in Hong Kong New World Department Store - Shanghai Pujian Branch Store. All proceeds from the charity bazaar were used for helping children with autism. On the activity day, in addition to dance performances, Jacky Xue, Dong Yi Wei and Chen Miao, the film director of Son of the Stars joined the promotional event, interacted with the customers in the store.

In 2012, NWDS became the key sponsor for "MSF Day" and the biggest institutional donor to the campaign for the sixth consecutive year. The Company together with New World Group appealed to all local and regional employees for donating their one day’s salaries to “MSF Day 2012”. With enthusiastic support from employees, a total of HK$446,780 was raised, of which HK$400,000 was contributed by NWDS. In order to enhance our employees’ understanding about MSF, the Company jointly co-organized a staff sharing sessions with MSF in Beijing in June 2012. Through sharing different real stories of rescue, employees were very impressed by the relief work of MSF. By MSF relief workers, employees’ enthusiasm was transformed into real contribution to aid the needy. Via MSF, our employees’ donations constituted a real contribution in the provision of aid to populations in need.
