NWDS Named the "Most Socially Responsible Listed Company" in the First "Golden Hong Kong Stocks Awards" for its Advocacy in Community Engagement and Giving back to Society

(17 January 2017 – Hong Kong) New World Department Store China Limited (“NWDS” or the “Company”; Hong Kong stock code: 825), one of the largest owners and operators of department stores in Mainland China, is pleased to announce its winning of the honorary title of the “Most Socially Responsible Listed Company” in the 2016 “Golden Hong Kong Stocks Awards” (the “Awards”). The honor illustrates the Company’s continual dedication in fostering a corporate volunteering culture by encouraging its staff to care for the community, as well as its incessant efforts in contributing to public welfare and giving back to society.

Jointly organized by China’s leading financial data service provider http://www.10jqka.com.cn/ and the top Hong Kong stock information platform in the country Zhitongcaijing.com, the Awards aim to honor Hong Kong listed companies with outstanding performance in various areas. Its stringent and objective assessment process began with the organizers examining the professional data provided by companies, the industries and data partners. A shortlist was then generated from the companies’ self-nomination and expert nomination. Winners were next selected based on an array of figures and indicators, such as their sales and revenue performance, market value, ROA, etc., as well as votes from the internet users and a judging panel comprising of institutional and media representatives. A number of awards were presented in the first edition of the Awards, including The Best Listed Company in Investment Value, The Best Listed Company in Shareholders’ Return, The Best Investor Relations Management, and The Most Socially Responsible Listed Company, etc.

NWDS has upheld the spirit of “giving back to society” over the years. By launching sustainability projects and sponsoring charitable causes at the communities where it operates, NWDS keeps close ties with the society and spares no efforts in driving the sustainable development of the society and caring for those in need. The NWDS Volunteer Team, which was founded in 2013, has now grown to a scale of over 2,400 volunteers. Every year, it organizes two nation-wide voluntary activities and encourages stores to organize local ones at where they operate, resulting in more than 900 voluntary activities and 15,000 volunteer service hours in total during FY2014 to FY2016. In addition, the Company has kicked off the “@Dream Sustainable Development Program” since July 2013 to provide a diversified training platform for under-resourced children in Mainland China with the aim to foster their balanced physical and mental development. The program has benefited more than 7,000 children to date. Besides, the Company has also been actively supporting other charitable and public welfare projects. In the past three years, NWDS donated more than HK$7 million to charitable and welfare organizations.
