(31 October 2016 – Hong Kong) New World Department Store China Limited (“NWDS” or the “Company”; Hong Kong stock code: 825), one of the largest owners and operators of department stores in Mainland China, is pleased to announce three wins from the 2016 Galaxy Awards for the outstanding contents and design of its FY2015 Annual Report and Sustainability Report. The FY2015 Annual Report garnered the Silver Award in the category of “Copywriting”, while its Sustainability Report is honored with the Gold Award in the category of “Annual Reports – Print: Retail - Department Store” and the Bronze Award in the category of “Annual Reports – Sustainability Report”. Marking the seventh consecutive year for NWDS to win at the Galaxy Awards and the first time that its Sustainability Report receives this international acclaim, the honors are a testament to the Company’s continual positive efforts in strengthening its performance in communication to align with world-class standards.

With the theme of “Happy Shopping”, NWDS’ FY2015 Annual Report features smiley bubbles and elegant pearl on its cover to embody the exciting and memorable experience customers have when shopping at NWDS, adhering to its customer-oriented operating approach. On the other hand, with the title of “Continuous Carbon Reduction”, the cover of the Company’s Sustainability Report makes use of green background and light bulb-shaped die-cut to highlight its outstanding achievements in the field of energy conservation and emissions reductions with the content covering its key sustainability performance and achievements relating to community services, environmental protection, staff benefits and development, and operating practices during the year under review. Both reports embrace the Company’s sustainability belief and are produced with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper and soy ink to mitigate the possible impacts to the environment.

Organized by MerComm, Inc. of the U.S., the internationally renowned Galaxy Awards honors outstanding communication projects across the globe. To ensure that submitted works are evaluated fairly and objectively, the awards are judged by peers in the profession rather than by editors and advertisers. Reports from around the world are each stringently evaluated three times, based on the values of creativity, effectiveness, performance and success in communication. Only the best submissions qualify for an award. If no entry scores high enough, no award is given. Such meticulous requirements make the awards highly recognized by the industry.

Ms. Violet Chan, Assistant General Manager of Corporate Communication and Chairman of Sustainability Steering Committee of NWDS, said, “NWDS has been continuously striving to optimize our communication with the Company’s stakeholders. It is the seventh year that our Annual Report is commended by the Galaxy Awards and the first time that our Sustainability Report receives this recognition since its first print in 2014. We are both surprised and joyous that our two-year old publication has clinched two awards from this international competition. As we celebrate this achievement, the awards also motivate us to unceasingly seek innovation and changes for an industry-leading position in the corporate communication aspect.”
