(28 April 2016 – Hong Kong) New World Department Store China Limited (“NWDS” or the “Company”; Hong Kong stock code: 825), one of the largest owners and operators of department stores in Mainland China, is pleased to announce that the Company won two Gold Awards and one Silver Award in the 2016 Astrid Awards with its FY2015 Annual Report and Sustainability Report. The Company’s Annual Report garnered the Gold Award in the category of “Annual Reports - Covers: Illustrations” and the Silver Award in the category of “Annual Reports - Covers: Artistic” while its Sustainability Report won the Gold Award in the category of “Annual Reports - Specialized: Sustainability Report”. The achievements endorse the Company’s seamless and outstanding communication with its stakeholders on the issues of business and sustainable development.
With the theme of “Happy Shopping”, NWDS FY2015 Annual Report features smiley bubbles and elegant pearl on its cover, embodying the exciting and memorable experience customers have when shopping at NWDS and therefore, garnered one Gold and one Silver Award respectively in two cover design categories. On the other hand, the main design concept of the Sustainability Report is “Continuous Carbon Reduction”, which is executed through green background and light bulb-shaped die-cut to highlight the Company’s outstanding achievements in the field of energy conservation and emissions reductions in the year under review. Both reports embrace the Company’s sustainability belief and are produced with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper and soy ink to mitigate the possible impacts to the environment.
Founded by the American MerComm, Inc. in 1992, the Astrid Awards is established to celebrate and reward outstanding design works. Entries are judged on the basis of concept creativity, clarity and production quality by the judging panel, which consists of famous designers, creative directors and design professionals around the world. Each entry is evaluated rigorously in three rounds. In situation where no entry can obtain the required score, no award will be given in that category. Therefore, it is widely recognized in industries all over the world for its stringent judging criteria.
