(20 October 2015 – Hong Kong) New World Department Store China Limited (“NWDS” or the “Company”; Hong Kong stock code: 825), one of the largest owners and operators of department stores in Mainland China, successfully completed its fifth “Green Mid-Autumn Festival- Moon Cake Box Recycling Campaign” held from 26 September to 9 October and collected over 2,800 redundant moon cake boxes, totaling about 25,000 boxes over the years. To further advocate waste utilization, a serious of workshops and exhibitions featuring green lanterns were held this year and well received by customers with over 700 participants, successfully seeding the message of environmental protection in customers.

Entering the fifth year, the campaign continued to be greeted by customers and concessionaire counters. In addition to the complimentary giveaways such as soaps and crystal slippers to reward customers for their participation, some concessionaire counters topped up the giveaways with generous sponsorships such as discount coupons, free pool game vouchers and free healthcare cards. As a result, over 2,800 redundant moon cake boxes were collected. Stores sent the moon cake boxes to recyclers and all the proceeds gathered were donated to charitable organizations.

To further raise customers’ awareness on environmental protection, the Company has incorporated new elements into the campaign since last year. With the theme of waste utilization, over 20 stores organized the “Parents-Children Green Lantern Making Workshops” this year, which customers and their kids were taught to create beautifully-crafted lanterns with excess materials and moon cake boxes. Some stores also added moon cake DIY workshops and lantern riddles games to enrich the content of the workshop. More than 700 customers took part in the workshops and spoke highly of the activity because it did not only raise children’s creativity level and environmental protection awareness, but also enhanced parent-child interaction. To further widespread the message of waste utilization, some stores set up in-store “Green Lantern Exhibitions” which attracted lots of customers. Harbin New World Department Store even uploaded the finished lanterns on its WeChat and invited users to vote for their favorite one while NWDS also organized the “NWDS Weibo · Find Moon Cake Boxes” retweeting activity on NWDS CSR Weibo concurrently which recorded a participation of over 2,500 fans, advocating the Green mid-autumn message via online channels successfully.

Ms. Rebecca Woo, Corporate Affairs Director and Chairman of Sustainability Steering Committee of NWDS, said, “Environmental protection does not only include recycling, but also waste utilization. After the subtle and years-long influence made by the campaign, we are pleased to learn that customers started to practice waste utilization in their daily life, transforming excess moon cake boxes into storage boxes and many household items. The change is indeed a big encouragement to us. This year’s well received ‘Parents-Children Green Lantern Making Workshops’ inspire us to organize more interactive green activities and to promote environmental protection in multiple ways.”
