(24 September 2015 – Hong Kong) New World Department Store China Limited (“NWDS” or the “Company”; Hong Kong stock code: 825), one of the largest owners and operators of department stores in Mainland China, will organize its signature nationwide green activity, the “Green Mid-Autumn Festival – Moon Cake Box Recycling Campaign” for the fifth consecutive year from 26 September to 9 October 2015. The Company will also hold a series of workshops and displays featuring green lanterns to encourage the public to create the festive decorations with recyclable waste to advocate waste utilization.

NWDS has organized the “Green Mid-Autumn Festival – Moon Cake Box Recycling Campaign” continuously since 2011 and collected an accumulative total of over 22,000 moon cake boxes across the years. To thanks customers for their contribution to environmental protection, they will receive a “Moon Cake Donation Coupon” upon donating a metal moon cake box or two paper moon cake boxes during the campaign, which they can use to redeem a green gift or enjoy extra discounts in their next purchase. NWDS VIP members and co-branded credit card owners will be eligible for additional green bonus points or gifts. All the moon cake boxes collected in the campaign will be sent to recyclers and all the proceeds gathered will be donated to district charitable organizations, embracing the spirit of giving in this traditional festival.

Besides enjoying moon cakes, appreciating lantern displays is another important activity in the Mid-Autumn Festival. NWDS’ this year campaign, with a theme of green lanterns, will feature the “Parents-Children Green Lantern Making Workshops” which customers can exert their creativity to transform recyclable waste, such as waste paper, recycled paper and plastic bags, into beautifully-crafted lanterns together with their kids. The final products have the chance to be displayed in the “Green Lantern Exhibition” held at the stores. Customers who are interested in the workshop can contact NWDS customer service centers at stores for details. Besides shopping, customers are also encouraged to spend extra time to appreciate the creative green lanterns displayed to enjoy a green Mid-Autumn Festival together.

During the event, NWDS CSR Weibo will organize the “NWDS CSR Weibo・Find Moon Cake Boxes” retweeting activity. By simply finding out the number of hidden moon cake boxes in the poster, leaving a correct answer and retweeting the feed and @3 friends, fans will earn an opportunity to win NWDS N-Card with face value of RMB 500.

Ms. Rebecca Woo, Corporate Affairs Director and Chairman of Sustainability Steering Committee of NWDS, said, “The ‘Green Mid-Autumn Festival – Moon Cake Box Recycling Campaign’ has been with us for years and it is proven to be successful as nowadays, customers would make active enquiries about the campaign arrangements to our staff and show tendency to buy moon cakes with simple and green packaging. Starting from last year, we have added new elements into the campaign and we decided to feature lantern making this year to educate customers how to practice waste utilization, helping raise the next generation’s awareness on environmental protection. We hope that the public will continue to support the campaign and join us to protect the Earth through donating excess moon cake boxes and taking part into our ‘Parents-Children Green Lantern Making Workshops.”
