Well-Received “Go Green with NWDS” Successfully Promotes Low-carbon Diet to the Public

(25 June 2015 – Hong Kong) New World Department Store China Limited (“NWDS” or the “Company”; Hong Kong stock code: 825), one of the largest owners and operators of department stores in Mainland China, completed the fourth “Go Green with NWDS”, a nationwide green activity, organized from 5 to 14 June with satisfaction. The activity were supported by over 12,000 “green” customers and more than 9,600 small potted plants have been given away by NWDS stores across the country, representing a remarkable increase of about 85% from last year. To align with this year’s new theme of “Low-carbon diet”, many NWDS stores held in-store cooking demonstrations and successfully encouraged the public to practice green dieting. 

As the kick-off activity of “Go Green with NWDS”, all NWDS staff members supported “Green Causal Wear Day” on 5 June by wearing green causal wear or accessories to work and decorating the office and stores with a wide range of green plants to create a fresh and green ambience for customers. Moreover, “Green Rewards GO GO GO” received an overwhelming support from over 12,000 customers who shopped at NWDS in green outfit. As a result, NWDS stores gave away over 9,600 small potted plants, recycle bags and recycled shoeboxes and other green gifts during the period of the activity. 

To align with this year’s new theme of “Low-carbon diet”, many NWDS stores such as Beijing New World Department Store, Chengdu New World Department Store and Zhengzhou New World Department Store organized “Chef is Coming to NWDS • Delicious Low-Carbon Diet” cooking demonstrations respectively and succeeded in attracting many interested customers and creating an heated atmosphere with interactive cooking tip seeking from the chef during the Q&A session. Wuhan New World Department Store co-organized “Genius Little Chef” activity with internationally well-known kitchenware manufacturer, “Fissler”, to teach children how to prepare green healthy dishes. Moreover, Hong Kong New World Department Store - Shanghai Hongkou Branch Store and Hong Kong New World Department Store - Shanghai Wujiaochang Branch Store organized enzyme workshops to teach customers to produce environmental friendly and economical enzyme cleanser with leftover vegetables and fruits. Integrating a growing popular health and well-being program, the workshops were well received by the customers. 

NWDS Stores also organized other creative green activities. Wuhan New World Department Store- Xudong Branch Store co-organized a recycle bag DIY workshop with local schools to enable students to make their personalized yet practical recycle bags with their parents. Besides, on top of organizing cooking demonstrations, over a hundred of staff members in Changsha New World Trendy Plaza helped create potted landscape with succulent plants in “Go Green • Cuisine and Potted Landscape DIY” and shared those photos on their WeChat, enlarging the influence of the activity. Concurrently, the Company launched “NWDS CSR Weibo • Go Green Together” wei-event in its “NWDS CSR” Weibo and attracted over 3,000 participants so that a wider online community could also receive the Company’s environmental messages.
