With Enthusiastic Support from About 30,000 Customers “Go Green with NWDS” Gives Away Record-breaking Amount of Small Potted Plants of 5,200

(30 June 2014 – Hong Kong) New World Department Store China Limited (“NWDS” or the “Company”; Hong Kong stock code: 825), one of the largest owners and operators of department stores in the PRC, has completed the third“Go Green with NWDS” green campaign with flying colors. The campaign, held from 5 to 15 June, has received tremendous support from about 30,000 customers to shop at NWDS stores in green attires or accessories. Stores across the country have given away more than 5,200 small potted plants in total to customers for them to green-furnish their homes, enabling them to further practice green lifestyle.

Successfully organized twice before, “Go Green with NWDS” is one of the Company’s most important annual environmental protection activities to echo the United Nations’ “World Environment Day” through motivating employees and customers to start adopting a low-carbon lifestyle in their daily lives. “Green Causal Wear Day” on 5 June is the highlight of the campaign which aims to encourage employees and customers to wear green outfits to demonstrate their commitment to protect the Earth. Public’s environmental awareness has been elevated as a result of the severe haze in China. Employees wore green attires on the “Green Casual Wear Day” for the cause while stores introduced the refreshing green concept to workplace by decorating the office with small potted plants and distributing organic fruits to employees. With enthusiastic support from customers, the number of participants of the campaign was tripled and stores gave away various green gifts, such as small potted plants, reusable shopping bags, botanical garden tickets and refreshing drinks in return to thank customers for their keen support. During the campaign, stores have given away 5,200 small potted plants nationwide, representing an increase of 39% compared to 2013, demonstrating that the campaign is effective in nurturing customers’ environmental awareness. To further create green in-store atmosphere, stores placed green plants in various location within the shopping area and some of them even displayed a large display board featuring the mascot “GAGA Green Fighter” for customers to write their green declarations, enjoying a green shopping experience.

To be in line with the theme, stores arranged numerous store-based green activities to enhance interaction with customers. Chongqing New World Department Store organized the “GAGA Green Fighter Salon” for customers and their children to make their own reusable shopping bags. Not only did it bring them a joyful creation experience, but it also grew children’s environmental awareness, cultivating the concept of Earth protection from their early ages. On 14 Jun 2014, Zhengzhou New World Department Store invited approximately a hundred riders to cycle in the city, promoting low-carbon transportation on-the-go. To further promote the campaign, Kunming New World Department Store and Wuhan New World Department Store-Wuchang Branch Store carried out some online promotions on their WeChat platforms. Customers were entitled to a RMB50 shopping voucher or other gifts by scanning the QR code on Company’s promotional materials, which successfully aroused a lot of fans’ interest and subsequently boosted the in-store concessionaire sales. Meanwhile, the Company organized the “Something Green Everyday” wei-event which has successfully achieved 730,000 online readership and encouraged netizens to make their green commitments.

Ms. Rebecca Woo, Corporate Affairs Director and Chairman of Sustainability Steering Committee of NWDS, said, “Protecting the Earth is not a difficult task. On the contrary, a tiny change in daily life, such as growing plants, wearing green attires, reducing the use of disposable utensils or adjusting air-conditioning to suitable temperature, can bring dramatic changes to the Earth. This is exactly the spirit of the “Go Green with NWDS”. The campaign has been organized for three years and we are pleased to see the number of participants tripled. This year, we broke the record to give away 5,200 small potted plants, showing that green seeds have started to bud in the public’s heart. To further enhance public’s environmental awareness, NWDS will continue to organize different types of green activities in the future to build a better Earth hand-in-hand.”
