(16 January 2014 – Hong Kong) New World Department Store China Limited (“NWDS” or the “Company”; Hong Kong stock code: 825), one of the largest owners and operators of department stores in the PRC, is dedicated to charitable causes and care of the under-privileged groups in the society. At the beginning of 2014, the Company co-operates with Shanghai Children’s Medical Center to launch “@Soul – Wish upon a Star” campaign under the umbrella of “@Dream Sustainable Development Program”. The campaign aims to express care and love to the sick children, arouse public awareness on their conditions and encourage them to receive treatment with positive attitude and to have a great childhood like other healthy children.

“@Soul – Wish upon a Star” will be carried in two phases – collection of spare toys and volunteer visit. From 18 January to 10 March 2014, all NWDS’ “Ba Li Chun Tian” branded department stores in Shanghai will collect spare toys from the public, which will then be given to the sick children of Shanghai Children’s Medical Center. The second phase is volunteer visit to Shanghai Children’s Medical Center in which NWDS Volunteer Team will visit the children regularly to tell stories, play games with them along with gifts, bringing them warmth during their recovering journey.

Ms. Rebecca Woo, Corporate Affairs Director and Chairman of Sustainability Steering Committee of NWDS, said, “‘@Dream Sustainable Development Program’ has been launched for over half year. We work closely with local government agencies, community organizations, schools across China to offer under-resourced children a specialized learning platform to pursue their dreams. With support from our staff, customers and the public, more than a thousand children have been benefited from the Program. The Company is honoured to jointly organize ‘@Soul – Wish upon a Star’ with Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, a children hospital integrated with medical care, education and scientific research functions, to bring laughter and hope to the sick children. Through collection of spare toys, we wish to arouse public awareness on sick children and encourage people to make good use of spare toys. We hope the public can share their plentiful resources with the under-privileged groups and care for the needy in the society. ‘@Dream Sustainable Development Program’ will continue to mobilize the public to make children’s dream come true.”
