(31 May 2010 – Hong Kong) New World Department Store China Limited (“NWDS” or the “Company”; Hong Kong stock code: 825), one of the largest owners and operators of department stores in the PRC, is pleased to announce that the “Used Book Donation Campaign” will be carried out in all NWDS’s stores in June. To recycle the resources for the protection of our environment, the collected books will be donated to hillside schools and charitable organizations. Moreover, the campaign can cultivate a reading atmosphere and provide more opportunities to young people who thirst for knowledge, helping them to broaden their horizons.

In order to fuel our efforts to save the planet and raise public awareness of environmental issues, all 35 NWDS’s stores will organize “Used Book Donation Campaign” from early June to 13 June, encouraging customers to send the used books to NWDS’s stores. Story books, classics, fictions, leisure books and poetries, as long as the contents are healthy and published by authorizedpublishers can be collected for donation. NWDS will distribute all collected books to hillside schools and charitable organizations.

In appreciation of the support of customers, participants who donate used books can receive a gift voucher of NWDS or a special gift during the period of the campaign. VIP and Platinum VIP members will also be eligible for additional benefits or rewards. Customers can contact the relevant stores for details.

To coincide with our give-and-take spirit, NWDS is dedicated to organize a variety of environmental conservation and philanthropic activities every year. All stores of NWDS will participate in “New World Green week – Green Wear Day” organized by New World Group on 11 June 2010, staffs are encouraged to wear green causal wear or accessories with green elements on that day in order to promote environmental preservation. In addition, NWDS held a number of environmental and philanthropic activities in this year, for example, Chengdu New World Department Store organized the “NWDS Tree Planting in Wenchuan” activity, inviting VIP members and staffs to attend the Tree Planting Activity in Wenchuan; Anshan New World Department Store, Dalian New World Department Store and Ningbo New World Trendy Department Store supported environmental protection by launching of “Collect Used Batteries” activity; Chongqing New World Departmnet Store promoted green concept to staffs by having green volunteers to collect rubbish in Nanshan, Chongqing; Anshan New World Department Store, Wuhan New World Trendy Plaza, Wuhan New World Department Store – Xudong Branch Store and Changsha New World Trendy Plaza supported “Earth Hour 2010” by turning off the outside lighting for an hour. Moreover, several stores held a diversity of environmental programs in 2009. For instance, Beijing New World Department Store launched “Technology and Conservation Week” to set up recycle bins for used batteries and information boards on food safety inside the store while Wuhan New World Department Store - Qiaokou Branch Store staged a party at which some 50 creative teams gathered for the paving of a creative, trendy street to promote a new concept in environmental conservation among the public. In charitable activities, NWDS supported the “Bright Future Action” for two consecutive years, aiming at disseminating accurate knowledge about the ailment and providing a chance of free treatment for afflicted children in Hong Kong and China; NWDS is also the principal sponsors for “Medecins Sans Frontieres” for four consecutive years. Besides, NWDS has donated resources to underprivileged children, disabled children, poor students and the elderly regularly.
