"Let's Donate a Tree to Save the Earth" waste paper recycling scheme to improve customers' awareness of environmental protection (December 2011)
In December 2011, NWDS organized the third nationwide green activity, "Let's Donate a Tree to Save the Earth" waste paper recycling scheme this year. The waste paper collected was recycled so as to improve customers' awareness of environmental protection, achieved the purpose of waste reduction as well as protection for the trees of the Earth.

Customers who visited the stores of NWDS were given a "Tree donation card", with donation of specific volume of waste paper could get one tree donation stamp. Customers who collected a specified number of stamps and shop in the stores with their "Tree donation card" were offered different privileges. VIP and Platinum VIP card members of NWDS will be eligible for additional reward. The event not only promoted environmental awareness but also thanked the customer for their support of NWDS. The stores transferred the waste paper collected from customers to recyclers for further handling, whilst the proceeds were donated to charitable organizations afterwards.

The employees and VIP members of Nanjing New World Department Store participated in the protecting "Tiger Swallowtail" charitable activity (November 2011)
On 12 November 2011, the employees and VIP customers of Nanjing New World Department Store formed a volunteer team of 50 people to participate in the protecting "Tiger Swallowtail" charitable activity organized by Jinling Evening News. The team arrived Jijin Mountain in Nanjing in the morning sunshine, picked up the garbage left behind by climbers in laughters all the way, reverting a clean natural environment for the wildlife of Jijin Mountain and making contribution to Nanjing citizens on breathing fresh air.

"NWDS Green Mid-Autumn FestivalMoon Cake Box Recycling Campaign" successfully promoted Recycling (September 2011)
From 9 September to 25 September 2011, NWDS organized a nationwide "NWDS Green Mid-Autumn Festival - Moon Cake Box Recycling Campaign", encouraged customers to donate moon cake boxes to NWDS and those boxes will be sent to recyclers for further process, therefore achieved the goal of reducing wastage and protecting the earth. Customers who donated one metal moon cake box or two paper moon cake boxes were given one donation coupon, purchasing in any of our stores with the coupon enjoyed fabulous privileges. The event collected more than 8,900 moon cake boxes, successfully promoted recycling.

Stores in Eastern China District organized the "Uncle Caring's Stationary Store" goods exchange activity (August 2011)
In August 2011, stores in Eastern China District organized the "Uncle Caring's Stationary Store" goods exchange activity, students can exchange their stationeries, reference book etc. Customers who provide their stationeries could get a Green sticker that entitled to exchanging one item..

Chengdu New World Department Store held "Flower City" Event (August 2011)
In August, Chengdu New World Department Store held "Flower City" event. As to create a green shopping environment, all the staff wore a "Flower City" label. At the same time, the store launched the potted plant adoption activity, passing environmental protection message to the customers and encouraging them to participate in green activities.

Wuhan New World Trendy Plaza organized a number of environmental activities (July 2011)
July 2011, Wuhan New World Trendy Plaza organized a number of environmental activities to preserve the Earth and raise customer's cognition on environmental protection. VIP members were entitled to obtain a recycle bag upon purchase over RMB300, reducing the usage of plastic bag. In addition, an environmental sharing session was held to encourage staff to share their experience on environmental conservation and protection.

With enthusiastic response, NWDS Green Rewards promoted environmental protection successfully (June to July 2011)
All NWDS stores organized "NWDS Green Rewards" from 10 June to 19 June to cope with the environmental development policy and mission to promote environmental awareness. All staff members attired with green color accessories to tie in with the decoration, enriching the greenery atmosphere in the store. In order to stimulate the enthusiasm of customers, customers attired with green colors or green elements and transacted purchase in any of our stores were entitled to different kind of environmental gifts.

In the meantime, "Green Wear Day" was held on 10 June, all staff members were encouraged to attire with green colors on that day in order to empower the green force.

NWDS organized food waste reduction activity (May 2011)
In order to encourage our customers and staff members to pay close attention to squandered food problem and reduce waste, all stores of NWDS carried out food waste reduction activity since May 2011. A poster themed "Moving up, support food waste recycle" was designed for posting in NWDS offices and stores, encouraging customers and staff members to concern about food waste problem as well as learning more about food waste recycle method. In addition, all stores will convey the information of food waste during the morning assembly every week.

Benediction and Hope to Japan e-card (April 2011)
As the industry premier social responsible corporate, New World Department Store China Limited is committed to concern community across the globe.Subsequent to the earthquake and tsunami happened in Japan, NWDS extended our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the Japanese people affected. All the NWDS departments and stores were encouraged to cascade this consecutive support and blessing to the people affected.

36 Stores of NWDS were dedicated to support Earth Hour 2011 (March 2011)
On the night of 26 March, all our 36 NWDS stores engaged the global commitment to make the world a difference. Via participating the Earth Hour 2011 which was organized by WWF, the non-essential lights from 8:30pm to 9:30pm on 26 March 2011 were switched off in order to accomplish a joint-force effort for a sustainable low carbon future.

Several New World Department Stores organized used battery recycling activities (Febrauary 2011)
In February 2011, used battery recycling activities were held in Anshan Store, Wuhan Xudong Branch Store, Taizhou Store, Ningbo Jiangdong Branch Store and Ningbo Trendy Store, recycling used battery to promote environmental awareness.

Chengdu New World Department Store held "Low-carbon redeem activity" (Febrauary 2011)
Chengdu Store launched "low-carbon series" gifts in redeem activities, promoting high-performance electric rice cooker, environmental storage box, recycled tableware etc. to VIP customers, to drive sales and to promote environmental awareness.

NWDS Staff Writing Competition on environmental protection (December 2010 - Jan 2011)
NWDS cares our environment and surrounding. We have long been encouraging staff to participate in environmental affairs. In order to boost staff members' environmental awareness, NWDS organized a staff writing competition and hopes to invite staff members to connect their daily lives with the environments. All submissions should be themed under "environmental protection" and "low carbon lifestyle" while submissions in form of text with less than 100 words or image are welcome. Apart from presentation of prizes to the winners of the masterpieces, prize will be also given to the department or the branch store with highest number of participation so as to encourage staff to think about the meaning of environmental protection.

Chongqing New World Department Store, Chengdu New World Department Store and Kunming New World Department Store sent electronic Christmas card to its VIP members this year, aiming to reduce carbon emission produced by sending paper cards.

On 15 September, they took tools and had cleaning exercises on the street so as to promote the coming World Expo, as well as demonstrating the image of peacefulness, cleanliness and orderliness of the city through the organization of the event.

In August 2009, six Wuhan stores launched Hand in Hand for a Bright Future for Poor Students and donated all items collected to Wuhan Youth Development Foundation.

Conservation activities
The Group has always promoted environmental awareness. Within the year, many stores held a diversity of conservation functions. For instance, Beijing Store launched Technology and Conservation Week, setting up recycle bins for used batteries and information boards on food safety inside the store. Similarly, Dalian Store held a conservation charity, Finding a Home for Used and Old Batteries. Wuhan Qiaokou Branch Store staged a party at which some 50 creative teams gathered for the paving of a creative, trendy street to promote a new concept in environmental conservation among the public.

Blackout for One Hour on Earth
Beijing Store and Shanghai Huaihai Branch Store pitched in on Blackout for One Hour on Earth (地球一小時), turning off external lighting for an hour to mitigate global warming through energy conservation and emission reduction.

NWDS Launched New Environmental Shopping Bag in all its stores
Brand new environmental paper shopping bag and non-woven shopping bag were launched in all New World Department Stores on 1 June 2008. All supermarkets also started to charge its customers on plaster bags. The Company implemented the above measures in order to encourage consumers to use environmental bag for environmental cause. 

Promoting Environmental Awareness
In 2008, our stores held a variety of activities for environmental conservation. They included Walkathon for Environmental Conservation by Changsha Store, Environment-friendly Shopping Bag Promotion jointly initiated by Beijing Trendy Store, Tianjin Store and Wuhan Xudong Branch Store, as well as Tree-planting for Environmental Conservation by Lanzhou Store.

Pitching in on Olympics Games
In anticipation of the Beijing Olympics 2008, the Group pitched in and rendered full support by organizing during Apri - July 2008 a series of activities under the umbrella theme of "We Are Ready". They included gymnastic competition, badminton tournament, karaoke contest and Standard English quiz. In addition, as a representative of Olympics volunteers, Beijing Trendy Store participated in the swear-in ceremony of "Olympics Volunteering by Beijing Business Services" organized by Beijing Bureau of Commerce on 26 June 2008, pledging municipal service for the Olympic Games along with other volunteers.

Shanghai Hongkou Branch Store welcomes 2007 Special Olympics athletes
Shanghai Hongkou Branch Store held a reception on 4 October 2007 for athletes and an entourage of about 400 family members, coaches and team leaders, in addition to hundreds of volunteers. They came for the Special Olympics World Games from 14 countries including Greece, Cuba, Peru, Puerto Rico, Moldova, Dominica, Burma, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore and Nepal. The participating athletes and entourage enjoyed this unique shopping tour in NWDS, each of them were impressed and left with an unforgettable memory.
